Artist Statement
As an art photographer I am focussed on portraits using digital photography. I am interested in gender roles and social roles, and how we as society create and educate ourselves in these roles in visual media. Questions I raise are: How do we visually narrate gender? Is there such a thing as gender-specific visual language? Who decides, according to which criteria, who is being depicted in what way?
My work is an attempt to create visual counter-narratives, that stand in contrast to the normative imagery and to contribute to the discourse on gender representation in photography.
Biography
I was born in Essen in 1986, studied at the University of Television and Film in Munich and now live in Berlin. I am a professional in the German film industry, an honorary member of the association "Women In Film And Television Germany" and part of the "Female Photoclub". I engage in artistic photography because I am interested in reflecting on visual storytelling.
