Projects
A portrait series about self-determination that portrays people who move beyond normative social and gender roles.
The series was exhibited, among many other places, at the European Month of Photography in Berlin and at the Kunstverein Familie Montez in Frankfurt am Main. Four portraits were purchased from the Art Collection of the Federal Ministry for the Environment.
A photo series in which people are portrayed as objects of sexual desire in self-determined portraits.
The series is a response to the "male gaze" and an attempt to add to such depictions from an explicitly female perspective. It involves the portrayed people in the making by asking them questions. Their portraits are embodied answers.
Artist Statement
As an art photographer I am focussed on portraits using digital photography. I am dealing with the question of whether and how we can unlearn normative thinking and behavior, such as gender-specific categorisations. We are surrounded by an imagery that shape such thinking and behavior and my work is an attempt to create visual counter-narratives, that stand in resistance to the normative imagery.
